Health care, child care workers rally to protect quality care

Over 600 health care and child care workers rallied in Springfield on November 20th to demand that state legislators prioritize working families in next year's budget by investing in quality care and finding new revenue to deal with the state's financial crisis – instead of making cuts to key programs.

SEIU Healthcare an even stronger voice for quality care

SEIU Healthcare Illinois & IndianaNearly 13,000 healthcare  and child care workers voted to unite into the country’s largest healthcare union local, SEIU Healthcare Illinois & Indiana. Votes were tallied on April 15, 2008, with 97% of members voting to create a new, even stronger voice for quality care.

SEIU President Andy Stern certified the election results and inducted the officers of the new local in Chicago in June.

February 28, 2008—Over 650 health care and child care providers from SEIU Healthcare Illinois & Indiana came together in Springfield to rally for quality care and pass a critical hospital funding bill. The event was the first action taken by the newly formed 90,000-member union representing hospital, long-term care and child care workers and marks our first big win as a new union.

Members from all divisions of SEIU Healthcare Illinois & Indiana helped make history at SEIU’s 2008 Convention in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Members overwhelmingly approved the groundbreaking Justice for All as the direction of our union for the next four years. Our work to make Justice for All a reality has already begun.
